1) 6 By 15 Campaign

The 6 by 15 campaign is a national effort to work on six national goals by the end of 2015, the year that marks the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and 40th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The campaign builds on Senator Tom Harkin’s goal to have six million working-age adults with disabilities participating in the workforce by 2015 and adds goals on community living, education, transition, healthy living, and early childhood. The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities, National Disability Rights Network, US Business Leadership Network, Special Olympics, National Council on Independent Living and the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD). For more information, visit http://sixbyfifteen.org/.

2) Working in the Community

National Core Indicators (NCI) data provides an important window on the employment and employment outcomes of people with IDD receiving services.  This special issue data brief, Working in the Community: The Status and Outcomes of People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Integrated Employment, updates a brief from October 2012, and describes the employment status of individuals supported by state IDD agencies, and compares participating states in terms of proportions of service recipients in different types of community employment. To review a copy of the brief, visit http://www.nationalcoreindicators.org/upload/core-indicators/update_on_data_brief_type_of_employment_-_final.pdf.

3) Employment Outcomes Among People with Disabilities

This publication, Individual Characteristics and Employment Outcomes Among People with Disabilities: A Critical Review of the Literature, presents a critical overview of the recent literature on employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities and how they vary by individual characteristics.  The review follows the social model of disability which posits that outcomes depend on three domains: health, personal characteristics, and environmental characteristics. This research was supported by the Individual Characteristics Rehabilitation Research and Training Center with funding by the U.S. Department of Education, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research. For more information and a copy of the publication, visit http://www.researchondisability.org/news-features/2014/03/17/new-publication-individual-characteristics-and-employment-outcomes-among-people-with-disabilities-a-critical-review-of-the-literature

4) Inclusive Employment: Being Proactive, Not Reactive Webinar

The American Association on Intellectual Disabilities and Development Disabilities (AAIDD) sponsored a webinar on the employment of individuals with IDD.  It was presented by Dr. Scott Harrington, director of Youth Transition at the Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities, on March 26, 2014.  The webinar recording is now available by visiting the following YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3MEUeE2h7g&feature=youtu.be.

5) WRP Jobs: A New Recruitment Resource for Private Employers

Private-sector employers can now use WRP.Jobs, a no-cost online job board, to find pre-screened college students and recent graduates with disabilities looking for internships and permanent positions. The WRP.jobs portal for non-federal employers is a pilot project developed through an innovative partnership between EARN and DirectEmployers. Employers can post single jobs or elect to connect appropriate college-level job vacancies to WRP.Jobs. Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) candidates looking for permanent jobs or professional internship opportunities can view and apply for positions. Candidates represent upperclassmen from all majors, including graduate and law students as well as veterans. WRP.Jobs directs applicants to employers’ career pages and applicant tracking systems.
To access WRP.Jobs, employers can visit www.AskEARN.org and click “Request WRP Candidates” to register.
